New York Jets defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman is being investigated by police in New Jersey after a woman claimed he slapped her on Wednesday, according to TMZ.com.
Citing a police report, the website reported Friday that a 28-year-old woman filed a report after she and Thurman had exchanged words and gestures outside of a Morristown, N.J. restaurant, and Thurman slapped her across the face "out of nowhere."
The unidentified woman apparently told police she was not injured by the blow, but reported it to police out of concern that Thurman might do the same to another woman, TMZ.com reported.
The story on the website includes two photos of Thurman and the woman (whose identity is hidden); Thurman's hand is raised in each one.
The Jets had not responded to TMZ's request for comment on the report, the story said. Thurman has been on Rex Ryan's Jets staff since Ryan's arrival in 2009, becoming defensive coordinator last season. The two also were on the same staff with the Ravens from 2006-07.
