Welcome to your daily update on the Brandon Aiyuk trade/extension saga with the San Francisco 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers fans, although this time around it appears there's another team involved: the Washington Commanders.
According to Mike Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Commanders, who were once thought to be in the running for Aiyuk before dropping out, might be returning to the mix.
Silver reports that everything is still on the table when it comes to the receiver, including a trade to the Steelers, an extension with the Niners, and a trade to Washington.
"My updated information is that everything is still on the table, including all the trades you've heard about," Silver said during an appearance on KNBR. "That Steelers scenario... I wouldn't rule out Washington."
Should we be surprised at this? Of course not.
If you're surprised at any development at this stage of the game, you haven't been paying close attention to this increasingly infuriating situation that seemingly will not end.
The Steelers were once thought to be out of the running, much like the Commanders were. Then, Pittsburgh was back in it for Aiyuk and appeared to be the only team left in the running.
The Commanders should certainly be taken seriously if they are still pursuing Aiyuk. After all, they have a promising young quarterback in Jayden Daniels, who also has a relationship with Aiyuk from their days together at Arizona State.
It remains to be seen if this is related, but the Commanders traded away wide receiver Jahan Dotson to the Philadelphia Eagles, which wouldn't make much sense if Aiyuk doesn't come to Washington.
Whatever the case may be, this is yet another twist in the never-ending Aiyuk saga. With a little over two weeks to go until the regular season, a resolution has to be coming soon, right? Don't bet on it.
