Rico Gathers is the latest college basketball star headed to the NFL after the Cowboys selected him Saturday late in the sixth round of the NFL Draft.
The Cowboys selected the 6-8, 275-pound Gathers to be a tight end. He last played organized football when he was 14, but hopes to be like San Diego's Antonio Gates, a college basketball player at Kent State, or Seattle's Jimmy Graham, who played basketball at Miami (Fla.).

Over the last two college basketball seasons, Gathers had 292 offensive rebounds, more than any other major conference player during that span.
Despite his on-court accolades, Gathers was considered an undersized power forward in the NBA. He decided to enter the NFL Draft instead, citing a better opportunity to make his mark.
The Cowboys made several intriguing picks in the draft, starting with running back Ezekiel Elliott in the first round and injured linebacker Jaylon Smith in the second round before drafting Gathers in the sixth.
One thing is certain: Jerry Jones certainly walked away with some curious talking points.
