The New York Giants placed rookie tight end Theo Johnson on the PUP list to begin training camp, and now we know the nature of the injury.
According to Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com, Johnson is dealing with a hip flexor injury.
Stapleton also reported that it is not expected to be a long-term injury and that the team likely knew about it because of the fact that he was put on the PUP list, which means it happened while Johnson was with the team.
Giants rookie TE Theo Johnson is dealing with a hip flexor, the reason he was placed on the active/PUP list to begin training camp, as I reported last night.

His absence should not be long term, and since he is on PUP and not the non-football injury list, that's a sign the team…
Had the injury taken place during training while he was away from the team, Johnson would have been placed on the Non-football injury list (NFI).
This certainly will be something to monitor once the veterans arrive for training camp next week. The rookie class for the Giants reported a week earlier.
A fourth-round pick, Johnson is expected to have a significant role in Brian Daboll's offense. The retirement of Darren Waller opens the door for Johnson to compete for the starting spot with Daniel Bellinger.
Johnson was one of the stars during the spring workouts, proving he has plenty of upside to be a dynamic tight end in Daboll's offense.
Whether the rookie will be ready for the start of training camp remains to be seen, but we'll keep you updated.
