One of the biggest areas of concern for the New York Giants entering the offseason was to add depth and talent to the offensive line.
Amid injuries to other positions on the roster, the offensive line was brutal. The Giants allowed 85 sacks in 2023, by far the most in the NFL. It was 20 more than the next team. Not all of it was on the offensive line—a chunk of blame is on the quarterbacks—but it was a rough year overall.
That's mostly why Pro Football Focus labeled the Giants offensive line as the weakest position group in the NFL.
Even after earning the worst offensive line grade of any team in 2023, the Giants did very little to improve their unit this offseason. The group recorded a 44.6 PFF grade last year and will hope a fully healthy Andrew Thomas and the additions of guard Jon Runyan (56.5 PFF grade in 2023) and tackle Jermaine Eluemunor (68.7) can provide a boost.
Andrew Thomas has been a staple at left tackle, but the Giants haven't gotten much around him. The development of Evan Neal has been slow and frustrating. John Michael Schmitz showed some flashes during his rookie season but needs to be more consistent.
The additions of Runyan, Eluemunor and Aaron Stinnie will provide competition at the other three spots on the offensive line, but it's still a major concern.
If the Giants want to make any improvements in 2024, the offensive line must become a strong unit.
