The New York Giants reportedly have shown "heavy interest" in Florida State running back Trey Benson ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Benson, who weighed in at 216 pounds and ran a 4.39 in the 40-yard dash, may be at the top of the list of running back prospects for the 2024 class. He has "drawn heavy interest" from the Giants, among other teams, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC2.

Benson was a two-year starter at Florida State after transferring from Oregon ahead of the 2022 season. In 2022, he took 154 carries for 990 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns while adding 13 receptions for 144 receiving yards.

He followed that up with 156 carries for 906 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns to go along with 20 receptions for 227 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown.

Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network has Benson listed as his RB1 in this class. Benson is expected to go as high as Day 2 of the draft.

In Vinnie Iyer's latest seven-round mock draft, the Giants selected Benson with the No. 107 overall pick.

Benson suffered a devastating knee injury during his freshman season at Oregon, tearing multiple ligaments in his knee including his ACL, MCL, lateral and medial meniscus.

Following the departure of Saquon Barkley in free agency, the Giants are likely to show some interest in the running back class. They signed Devin Singletary in free agency, but that's more likely a short-term move.

Benson would be an intriguing addition to the Giants offense, but it remains to be seen if they will use significant draft capital on him considering the needs they have elsewhere.
