New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones was just like the rest of us, waiting to see what the team would do with its first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Giants had been linked to so many quarterbacks throughout the pre-draft process that many believed they were going to select the position regardless of what happened ahead of them.
Instead, they wound up taking wide receiver Malik Nabers with the No. 6 overall pick. Even so, Jones wasn't privy to the idea of the Giants drafting another quarterback.
"I mean, I wasn't fired up about it," Jones told reporters Thursday. "But I think it's part of it at this level, like I said. What I can do is focus on myself and getting healthy, play the best football I can play, and that I know I'm capable of playing. That's my job and that's what I'm going to do."
No quarterback is ever excited about the idea of a team drafting his potential replacement. But Jones has seemingly handled it in stride.
As he works his way back from the torn ACL that ended his 2023 season prematurely, his sole focus is getting ready to lead the offense. Jones has been working in 7-on-7 drills during OTAs but has yet to progress to full team work.
Jones believes he will be ready for Week 1 of the season when the Giants take on the Minnesota Vikings.
