NaVorro Bowman still has three years remaining on his contract, but the 49ers want to ensure the linebacker finishes his career in San Francisco.
According to multiple reports, Bowman and the Niners agreed Wednesday to a four-year contraction extension that will keep him with the team through the 2022 season. Bowman, a third-round pick of the Niners in 2010, inked a five-year extension worth $45.25 million in 2012. His new deal will pay him $44 million from 2019-22 with $20 million guaranteed.

Bowman, for his part, seemed pretty happy with the deal — and his extended stay in San Francisco.

Bowman missed the entire 2014 season after suffering a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee during the 2013 NFC Championship. Bowman came back to lead the NFL with 154 tackles during the regular season in 2015. Bowman has had at least 140 tackles in his last four NFL seasons.
Bowman's extension with three years remaining on his current contract is bound to get the attention of other NFL players — like, say, Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins — who are seeking new deals.
