M&M's is making its ninth Super Bowl appearance this season – and this year it comes with a ring.
This year's ad features the "Ring of Comfort" – and three NFL legends who never won that elusive Super Bowl ring will play along in the "Almost Champions" campaign. Pro Football Hall of Famers Dan Marino, Terrell Owens and Bruce Smith all will take part in the M&M's commercial – which features the cast of M&M's characters.
Those NFL legends combined for six Super Bowl appearances, but they were never able to win that championship ring. Will the "Ring of Comfort'' be a source of solace?

M&M's Super Bowl commercial
M&M's is a regular on the Super Bowl stage.
Actress Maya Rudolph starred in last year's ad and veered away from its "spokescandies" campaign that drew criticism from some conservative outlets.
In 2022, M&M's commercial leaned into the theme "for all funkind," and the 2021 Super Bowl commercial featured Dan Levy and was one of the more well-received ads that season. The trailer can be seen here:
Did Dan Marino play in the Super Bowl?
Marino played in one Super Bowl with the Miami Dolphins.
Marino played 17 seasons with the Dolphins from 1983-99. He was the first quarterback in NFL history to reach 400 passing TDs. he finished with 420 TDs, which ranks seven all time; and 61,361 passing yards, which is eighth all time.
In his second season, Marino led the Dolphins to an appearance in Super Bowl 19. Marino had 318 passing yards, a TD and two interceptions in a 38-16 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, who were led by three-time Super Bowl winner Joe Montana.
Marino never returned and is generally considered the best quarterback in NFL history without a Super Bowl championship. He finished with a 8-10 record in the playoffs.
Did Terrell Owens play in the Super Bowl?
Owens played in one Super Bowl during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Owens played 15 seasons between stints with the 49ers, Eagles, Cowboys, Bills and Bengals. Owens put up 15,934 receiving yards, which ranks third behind Jerry Rice (22,895) and Larry Fitzgerald (17,492). Owens also has 153 receiving TDs, which ranks third behind Rice (197) and Randy Moss (156).
Owens played in Super Bowl 39 – a 24-21 loss to the New England Patriots. Owens returned from a broken leg he had suffered that season and put on a spectacular performance with nine catches for 122 yards. He likely would have been Super Bowl MVP had the Eagles won the game.
Owens had 54 catches for 751 yards and five TDs in 12 career postseason games, and his teams were a combined 4-8 in those games.
Did Bruce Smith play in the Super Bowl?
"Four times." Smith references how many Super Bowls he played in the trailer for the M&M's Super Bowl ad. The NFL began tracking sacks in 1960, and Smith is the all-time leader with 200 sacks. That is two more than contemporary Reggie White, who won Super Bowl 31 with the Green Bay Packers.
Smith was a star defensive end for 15 seasons from 1985-99, and he closed his career with four seasons with Washington from 2000-03.
The Bills lost four consecutive Super Bowls through the 1990-93 seasons. The first was the most-heartbreaking in a 20-19 loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl 25. Washington beat Buffalo 37-24 in Super Bowl 26.
Then, Dallas beat Buffalo 52-17 in Super Bowl 27 and 30-13 in Super Bowl 28. Smith had one sack in Super Bowl 25 and one sack in Super Bowl 27.
