A source close to the Vikings tells Sporting News that the team has renewed defensive coordinator George Edwards' contract for 2018.
Edwards' previous deal expired after the 2017 season, but the Vikings made an easy decision to retain him after he guided the NFL's No. 1 defense during a run to the NFC Championship game. Terms of the new contract were not immediately available.

The Vikings ranked No. 1 in overall defense and scoring defense last season, allowing 275.9 yards per game and 15.8 points per contest. The Vikings, however, also allowed 456 total yards in a 38-7 blowout loss to the Eagles in the NFC Championship.
Edwards, 50, interviewed for the Bears' open head-coaching job in January before Chicago tabbed former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy to replace John Fox. Edwards, who has coached 20 years in the NFL, has been Minnesota’s defensive coordinator since 2014.
