Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer is no stranger to showing love for the Detroit Lions, something she did once again recently during a campaign rally for Minnesota governor and Democratic vice presidential candidate, Tim Walz. However, she also managed to take a shot at Walz's hometown Minnesota Vikings in the process.
During the rally, Whitmer praised Walz for his past accomplishments, which includes being a high school football coach. But she wasn't going to let what the Lions did to the Vikings in 2023 go unmentioned.
“He’s a former soldier and a state championship-winning football coach,” Whitmer said of Walz. “I mean, maybe he should help out the Vikings after we smoked them twice last year. I’m just sayin’. OK. You can’t take away our Lions’ pride.”

The Lions didn't exactly smoke the Vikings, but they did beat them twice in 2023, with the first win coming in Minnesota in Week 16, 30-24, and the second win coming in Detroit in Week 18, 30-20.
While the Vikings have historically dominated the Lions — Minnesota leads the all-time series with an 80-43-2 record over Detroit — that has not been the case in recent years, with the Lions winning four of their last five against the Vikings.
Looking ahead to 2024, both teams are heading in different directions. The Lions have serious Super Bowl aspirations, while the Vikings will struggle to be competitive.
