Desperate times call for desperate measures, and Michael Irvin thinks the Cowboys' season could soon come to that.
Speaking Wednesday on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, the Hall of Fame receiver noted the significant void Amari Cooper's absence with a thigh bruise leaves and suggested the team find another receiver to temporarily fill the hole with Sunday's NFC East showdown against the Eagles looming.
"You need Amari to get back,'' Irvin said. "Unless you want to go pick up Antonio Brown until (Cooper) gets back."
Irvin laughed throughout his remarks, indicating he might not be completely serious. Then again, the Cowboys have lost three straight after a 3-0 start. Should Philadelphia (3-3) extend Dallas' skid, the Eagles would move to first in the division and, importantly, remain undefeated in NFC East play.
A win, on the other hand, could put the Cowboys back in control with a 3-0 division record and give Dallas the confidence it needs entering its bye week before coming back to a four-game stretch that includes three on the road.
"I'm not gonna lie: Desperation makes you think about a lot of things,'' Irvin said. "We ain't got no time to sit up riding the high horse, like we're too good for this and we're took good for that. We need some H-E-L-P right now! Real help!
"And here we find help. I don’t care what kind of media relations coming with it or a public relations nightmare come with it," Irvin said of the baggage that would come with Brown. "Some wins can cure some of those things. … Maybe we should just go pick him up for a week or two."
Brown was released by the Raiders and Patriots last month amid allegations of sexual misconduct, sexual assault and rape. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell briefly addressed the league's investigation into those accusations Wednesday, saying it remains ongoing.
"We’re still working at that," Goodell said, per NESN. "I will probably be getting an update when I get back to New York. Our folks have been working diligently at that. When we reach a conclusion, I’ll obviously let you know."
Brown has made it clear that he misses football and wants to play again as he continues to deny the allegations against him, but he'll first have to clear the NFL's probe. He'll also need to settle the numerous grievances and appeals he's involved with regarding the Raiders and Patriots.
