Matthew Stafford's status for Week 3: 'We'll see,' says Lions coach image

Matthew Stafford was battered by the Vikings on Sunday but managed to play the entire game. His status for next weekend against the Broncos is very much in doubt, though.

Asked Monday about where his quarterback stands for Week 3, Lions coach Jim Caldwell replied only: "We'll see."

Not encouraging words for Stafford, who underwent chest X-rays after being knocked around all afternoon in a 26-16 loss to Minnesota.

Stafford was 32 of 53 for 286 yards with two touchdowns and an interception as the Lions fell to 0-2, but he spent much of the day running for cover. He was sacked only once, but according to Pro Football Focus, he faced pressure on 22 of 58 dropbacks.

Caldwell summed up Stafford's afternoon this way Monday: "He's sore. It was a tough day for him."

The Lions host the Broncos in the nationally televised Sunday night game this week. Veteran journeyman Dan Orlovsky is the only other quarterback on their roster, though Ricky Stanzi is on the practice squad.
