A Rhode Island man allegedly attempting Thursday to steal a game-worn Tom Brady jersey from the Patriots Hall of Fame at Gillette Stadium was caught before he got far, CBS Boston reported.
Zanini Cineus, 33, of Providence was captured by team security with the help of Foxboro Police officers in the stadium plaza parking lot wearing the jersey under his jacket, police say.
He is accused of attempting to steal other memorabilia as well. The jersey alone is valued at $10,000, according to the Attleboro Sun Chronicle.
Cineus was arrested and charged with larceny from a building.
He was freed on his own recognizance after an innocent plea was entered on his behalf in Wrentham District Court, though police say Cineus admitted to them that he stole the jersey and he also admitted it in talking to a Sun Chronicle reporter at the courthouse after he was released.
This isn’t the first time a stolen Tom Brady jersey has made headlines.
The FBI helped track down Brady's game-worn jersey that was stolen out of the locker room after the Patriots' 34-28 overtime Super Bowl victory over the Falcons in 2017.
