Dan Campbell's Lions arguably became great last season. Behind Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, and the 1-2 punch of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit cruised to a 12-5 record and made it all the way to the NFC title game. Dan Campbell's squad ultimately lost 34-31 to the eventual NFC-champion 49ers, but Motown was thrilled about Detroit's best NFL season of all time.
Detroit then had what PFF graded as an A+ offseason, bringing in D.J. Reader, Carlton Davis, Marcus Davenport and Kevin Zeitler in free agency and then drafting two of the best cornerbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft in Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. Seattle will have its hands full with these Lions, who BetMGM lists with the fourth-shortest odds to win Super Bowl 59.
The Seahawks, however, also have plenty of reason to be optimistic. They're coming off back-to-back winning seasons in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL, and they have a brand-new head coach in Mike Macdonald. With Pro Bowl QB Geno Smith, a talented stable of skill-position players including DK Metcalf and Kenneth Walker III, and an ever-improving defense, the future is bright in Seattle.
These teams squared off in an offensive bonanza last September, with Seattle ultimately prevailing 37-31 in overtime. That was also in Detroit, so expect the Lions to be raring to go for this one. Detroit has just one win against Seattle in 10 tries in the 21st century!
