The Detroit Lions made a significant move in their cornerbacks room earlier this offseason when the team struck a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for veteran Carlton Davis.
It was a move the Lions had to make, as they had a need at the position, even before the release of Cameron Sutton in the wake of his legal issues.
Included in the deal was one of the Lions' 2024 third-round picks, of which they originally had two. Detroit used the other third-round selection to move up in the first round to select cornerback Terrion Arnold.
The Buccaneers went on to use the acquired Lions pick (No. 92 overall) on Washington wideout, Jalen McMillan.
The Buccaneers drafting a wide receiver in that spot is funny because the Lions had a need at the position going into the draft thanks to a lack of depth and reliable options overall.
It's a need the Lions still haven't addressed with a significant move, either. Detroit did add a pair of wide receivers when it inked undrafted free agents Jalon Calhoun and Isaiah Williams, although those signings are hardly adequate.
We suggested the Lions sign former Jacksonville Jaguars wideout Zay Jones, who was released on Tuesday. He would qualify as an adequate depth addition with his experience and versatility to play outside and in the slot. Whatever the Lions do, they need more reliable depth.
