In what was an unexpected move, Detroit Lions restricted free agent tight end Brock Wright signed an offer sheet with the San Francisco 49ers this offseason, which forced the Lions to either match or let Wright go.
Ultimately, the Lions decided to match the three-year, $12 million offer sheet to keep Wright in Motown. However, they apparently used almost every hour of the five days they had to match the deal, as Wright revealed on Tuesday.
Wright also said he had gotten to the point where he was checking out the price per square foot of real estate in San Francisco, which he cited as another reason why he's happy he's staying in Detroit.
How close was Brock Wright to joining the 49ers? The Lions took it down to 2.5 hours of the deadline to let him know they were matching the offer.

Said he "did look into the price per square foot" of real estate in San Fran. "So that's another plus" of staying in Detroit.
Wright enters his fourth seasons with the Lions after signing with them as an undrafted free agent in 2021, a decision he calls one of the best he's ever made.
"Our exit interviews at the end of the year I was talking with (offensive coordinator) Ben Johnson and he said, 'Man, don't you think that picking Detroit was the best decision you've ever made in your life in unrestricted free agency?' I've said that multiple times now. By far it's one of the best decisions I've ever made," Wright said, according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.
