The Las Vegas Raiders have a major question mark at the quarterback position ahead of the 2024 campaign as the team sees a competition for the starting job in training camp between Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell.
But not only is there uncertainty due to the competition, both quarterbacks also bring their own question marks if they get the starting job. Minshew has been a backup for most of his career, and O'Connell doesn't have much experience with just 10 starts under his belt entering his second season in the NFL.
Recently, Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams said there are "pros and cons" to the lack of a timeline for Las Vegas' ultimate decision on who gets the nod.
"There's pros and cons [to no timeline], but at the end of the day, we get enough reps with both guys and we are all communicating," Adams said, per ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. "We have really open conversations, and we all get reps with all the quarterbacks ... and I'm definitely watching at all times, seeing everything and learning how the ball comes out with Gardner versus Aidan.
"I got my antennas up for everything."
The pro of the battle is that the Raiders will eventually land on the quarterback who gives them the best chance to win between the two.
The con is that neither signal-caller is getting consistent reps with their pass-catchers because they're constantly switching off, something that is particularly a concern for Minshew because he doesn't have the experience working with the Raiders' top pass-catchers like O'Connell does.
After both quarterbacks had failed to create separation in the competition during the offseason program and in the early stages of training camp, Minshew seems to have pulled ahead at least slightly after a better showing than O'Connell during the team's Saturday evening session last week.
However, with several more training camp practices and three preseason games to go, this competition is anything but settled.
