Few players on the Las Vegas Raiders need a strong training camp like cornerback Jakorian Bennett, who is not only looking to bounce back after a bad rookie campaign, but also battling for the No. 2 job opposite Jack Jones.
So far, it appears things are going very well for the second-year cornerback, who has been identified as one of the team's biggest standouts during the early stages of training camp.
According to Raiders Insider Hondo Carpenter, Bennett has "probably had the best camp of any Raider, every single day," and has even been winning reps against Raiders star receiver, Davante Adams.
“He probably has had the best camp of any Raider, every single day," Carpenter said after Monday's practice. "Today again he’s out there competing with Davante and he’s winning reps now. He’s not winning all of them. He’s going against Davante Adams, but this is the kid last year that Davante had a heyday with him. Now he’s holding his own. I’m going to tell you right now it is clear to me the three corners [are] Jack Jones, Nate Hobbs, and Jakorian Bennett.”
Carpenter isn't the only one who has been impressed with Bennett thus far, as Vic Tafur of The Athletic also heaped praise on the embattled former second-round selection.
Cornerback Brandon Facyson missed practice Monday due to an undisclosed reason. With him out, Jakorian Bennett handled all of the starting snaps at outside cornerback. After losing his starting job last season due to injury and poor performance, the second-year player has had a strong training camp and looks to be on his way to reclaiming it.
Bennett was thought to be the favorite for the Raiders' No. 2 job in training camp after building some momentum during the offseason program. So far, it looks like he's on the path to winning a competition that also includes Brandon Facyson and Decamerion Richardson.
