Few people could have guessed the 49ers would be one of two remaining undefeated teams at the end of Week 6.
Niners coach Kyle Shanahan was confident entering Sunday's game in Los Angeles, but he still sees room for improvement after a dominant defensive performance that allowed the team to leave with a 20-7 win.
"I’m very happy with how we played," Shanahan told reporters after the game. "We’re 5-0, which is a great thing, but we’re not playing our best ball. We can do a lot of things better than that. It seemed like our defense played at an extremely high level, obviously minus the first drive.
"We can continue to get better on offense. We can continue to get better on special teams. I also think our defense is just getting started, too."
The Rams opened the game by running seven times on a 56-yard touchdown drive, but it would end up being the only points the team put on the board.
The Niners held Los Angeles to 3.3 yards per play, which is the lowest average in Rams franchise history, and quarterback Jared Goff had his worst performance to date as he completed 13 of 24 for a career-low 78 yards. Now Los Angeles is on its first three-game losing streak of Sean McVay's tenure.
"This is the win right here. This is the opportunity we’ve been waiting for to make a statement in our division. We’re in the driver’s seat now," rookie defensive end Nick Bosa said.
