UPDATE: Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin revealed that defensive lineman Keeanu Benton indeed suffered a right eye injury during the preseason Week 1 game after getting poked. Tomlin added that Benton is OK. The defensive lineman was spotted wearing protective eyewear in the locker room (end of update).
The Pittsburgh Steelers have their first injury of the 2024 preseason, as defensive lineman Keeanu Benton exited early with an injury.
Benton took himself out of the game late in the first quarter and was spotted going to the locker room. Per ESPN's Brooke Pryor, the 2023 second-round pick suffered an eye injury.
We don't have any other specifics as of this writing, but it didn't appear to be serious initially.
Prior to his exit, Benton tallied one tackle and had an early pressure up the middle on Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud.
