The Pittsburgh Steelers opened up their 2024 preseason on Friday night with a 20-12 loss to the Houston Texans. With Russell Wilson not playing, quarterback Justin Fields got the start.
Fields finished after three series and completed 5-of-6 passes for 67 yards, leading to a passer rating of 113.2. He also added three carries for two yards. Unfortunately, multiple sacks and bad exchanges with Nate Herbig prevented the Steelers' offense from putting together scoring drives while Fields was in the game.
The signal-caller's best passes came on two completions to wide receiver George Pickens, and one to wideout Van Jefferson, whose 20-yard reception was Fields' longest of the night. He also completed a 16-yarder to running back Najee Harris.
One of the passes to Pickens displayed Fields' impressive ability to change arm angles. Check out every one of Fields' snaps from Friday night below. The video comes via Steelers Depot.

Fields entered the contest still trailing Wilson for the starting job and this showing, while solid, won't do anything to change that. Perhaps Fields can make ground on Wilson next week when he's expected to make his own preseason debut.
After a week of practice, the Steelers will return to the field next Saturday when they host the Buffalo Bills in preseason Week 2 at Acrisure Stadium.
