It is now certain that the Cleveland Browns won't get their man after all. On Wednesday, Patriots' offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels withdrew his name from consideration for the head coaching job, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
McDaniels is an Ohio native, and was considered the front runner for the position due to his relationship with Browns general manager Mike Lombardi. The Patriots OC has a good job, and a strong relationship with head coach Bill Belichick and QB Tom Brady, which makes him the rare assistant who can afford to be selective about his next head coaching job.
McDaniels' last go-round as the man in charge was with the Denver Broncos back in 2010, before he was fired by the teams' front office. Back then he was a little too green and immature to handle the responsibility, but after spending some more time under Belichick, McDaniels should be ready for another crack at being a head coach.
It's just too bad for the Browns that it won't be in Cleveland.
