There's at least a chance Josh Gordon will be back in an NFL uniform in 2016.

The suspended Cleveland Browns receiver met with commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday, NFL Media reported. Gordon is eligible to apply for reinstatement from his latest substance-abuse ban on Aug. 1, but ESPN reported the league isn't likely to make a decision on his status before the start of this season.

Gordon, 25, has appeared in only five games the last two seasons. After playing in all 16 games as a rookie in 2012, Gordon was suspended two games in 2013 and 10 more in 2014 before being banned for the entire 2015 season. A chance at reinstatement this spring was put on hold after he reportedly failed a league-mandated drug test because of a diluted sample.

Gordon has the potential to be an impact player if he can stay on the field. He caught 87 passes for 1,646 yards in 2013, most notably racking up 498 yards over 24 catches in back-to-back games against the Steelers and Jaguars.
