At this point, it's highly unlikely the Packers' Jordy Nelson will take the field Sunday against the Falcons in the NFC championship in Atlanta.
The Green Bay Packers will be traveling to the Georgia Dome to face the Falcons for the NFC title game, but Nelson's broken ribs will likely keep him sidelined. According to sources at ESPN, it would be extremely difficult for Nelson to play just two weeks after he sustained the broken ribs. He wasn't cleared to play in Green Bay's 34-31 victory over the Cowboys on Sunday, but coach Mike McCarthy said Nelson would be reevaluated Monday.
Jordy Nelson injury update
"Can't tell you if Jordy's going to practice Wednesday, but he did all the work in the (regeneration) workout (Monday)," McCarthy said. "So that's a good sign."
While most players wouldn't be able to return to the field two weeks after breaking his ribs, the sources said "Nelson is different than most players." The rest of the team is hopeful that Nelson will defy the odds, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
"We're going to try to get this one and hopefully get him back if he can't play this week," Rodgers said Thursday.
"He's been a warrior all season. I don't think he's missed a practice hardly all season. Different without him out there, but we're hopeful he's going to be able to heal quickly and be able to go."
