Is Jonathan Owens at the Olympics? Explaining Bears safety's presence alongside wife Simone Biles at Paris Games image

As Simone Biles readied for her close-up at the 2024 Olympics, her husband — Jonathan Owens — is preparing for one, too.

The Bears safety burst into the national consciousness not just for his willingness to roam in the secondary, but also because of his high-profile romance with the U.S. gymnastics supernova. And with the 27-year-old leading her team in the women's gymnastics final, many were wondering just where is her spouse. After all, he was a prominent participant in the lead-up to Chicago's Hall of Fame Game clash with the Texans on Aug. 1.

Here are the latest on Owens' whereabouts after his wife added another gold to her glimmering collection on Tuesday evening.

Is Jonathan Owens at the Olympics?

Owens touched down in the French capital just in time to watch Biles and the rest of the U.S. women's gymnastics team compete for the top prize at this year's Olympics.

Prior to agreeing a two-year deal with the Bears this offseason, Owens asked his prospective employers to grant him a leave of absence to support Biles in Paris during the Games. The team made good on its promise, giving Owens its blessing as he left for Bercy Arena, the site of this year's Olympic gymnastics events.

Owens gave fans a window into his travel itinerary on Monday night, posting a picture of himself in transit.

He was in the land of the Francophones, offering support from the concourses alongside members of Biles' family.

After Biles and the U.S. women's gymnastics team secured another gold medal, Owens took to Instagram to congratulate his partner on her historic run.

"Witnessing history every time you step on the mat," Owens wrote with a few emojis. "Congrats baby on becoming the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history!!!! Just wow!!!! 8 of them!!!!! So thankful i was there to see it," he concluded with red, white and blue hearts.

Who is Simone Biles' husband?

Biles is married to NFL player Jonathan Owens. The two met during the COVID-19 pandemic, matching on Raya — the dating app for the stars. After a short courtship, the pair began dating in the summer of 2020. Three years later, they were wedded.

Biles was a regular presence at Owens' games during the 2023 season. It seems Owens is returning the favor, offering his presence at a variety of different gymnastics meets, most notably — it seems — at this year's Olympics.

Jonathan Owens stats

Owens played just seven games in his first three NFL seasons before finally getting a chance to prove himself on defense in 2021. He didn't log a tackle in his first three seasons but eventually became one of the most productive players in Houston's secondary.

Below is a look at his stats from his time with the Texans and the Packers:
