Joe Staley wants to play his entire NFL career with the 49ers, and the longtime tackle will get that opportunity after signing a two-year contract extension with the club.

The team announced Staley's new deal during a State of the Franchise event Wednesday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Staley acknowledged that he was concerned he may not get to finish his career with the franchise that drafted him in the first round in 2007 out of Central Michigan.

"Obviously I never wanted to play for another franchise and it was just kind of hoping and . . . hoping that they would want to do a deal and get a deal done," Staley told reporters, per NBC Sports Bay Area.

Staley also had to decide that he wanted to keep playing beyond 2019.

"Once I made a decision that for sure I was going to play more after this year, then it was like, 'I'll only play for the Niners,' so, try to get a deal done," he said.

Staley, 34, has played in 174 games (all starts) and was a mainstay on the San Francisco teams that reached the playoffs in 2011, 2012 and 2013. He started Super Bowl 47 vs. the Ravens. Staley has also been named to six Pro Bowls.
