J.J. Watt cracks jokes about NFL's random drug test request following his retirement image

J.J. Watt announced that he would retire from the NFL at the end of the 2022 season back in December. He logged two sacks in the Cardinals' 38-13 Week 18 loss to the 49ers to cap off his NFL career.

However, the league doesn't appear to be done with him just yet. Case in point, a text sent by a league official to Watt himself.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year award winner shared on Twitter Tuesday that he had received a text message from the NFL.

What did the league want? To perform a random drug test — more specifically, an HGH dry blood spot test — on Watt.

The former Texans and Cardinals star found that amusing and cracked a joke about it after posting a screenshot of the conversation.

"I don’t know what happens when you click 'Report Junk' but I think I’m about to find out," Watt wrote.

Technically, if Watt doesn't perform the drug test, it will count as a failure under the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. He would be subject to a suspension for "refusing to appear for required testing."

Of course, this will be of little consequence to Watt, as the 33-year-old has already decided to retire from the NFL. So, as long as he doesn't reverse course and return to the field, a suspension would be meaningless.

This also isn't the first time that the NFL's random drug testing policy has amused (or irked) players. Notably, Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was selected for a whopping four tests during the 2021 NFL season, and he cracked a joke about the league trying to clone him.

Watt will have no such qualms given that his tests have come infrequently compared to Garrett's. But it coming after his heartfelt and very public retirement from the NFL is certainly reason to chuckle.
