Kelechi Osemele had successful surgery over the weekend, but the damage to the guard's shoulder was "more extensive than anticipated," his agent said.
In a statement provided by ESPN, Osemele's representatives, as well as the NFLPA, will now consider taking "specific action" against the team doctor for "violations of State Medical Board Regulations."
The Jets officially released him Saturday afternoon.
Per Kelechi Osemele’s agents: Osemele’s surgery went well yesterday, but damage to shoulder was more extensive than anticipated. His representatives and NFLPA are now considering specific action against the Jets’ team doctor for violations of State Medical Board Regulations.

Osemele has gone back-and-forth on the issue with the Jets over the past two weeks.
He revealed last week he needed surgery for a torn labrum that the team had not approved. New York then fined him for missing practice, citing "conduct detrimental to the team."
Osemele then got a third opinion on his injury and had surgery Friday, with or without the team's OK, as multiple reports indicated he would.
He will miss the rest of the 2019 season but remains under contract for 2020. Osemele has a $9.7 million base salary this year that the Jets would have to pay him, whether he ends up on season-ending injured reserve or, as the Jets' stance appears to be, plays through the injury.
Alex Lewis has replaced him at left guard in the lineup the past two games.
Osemele, an eight-year veteran in his first season with the Jets, has stood firm on his initial stance to pursue a grievance against the team because of the fines.
