Larry Fitzgerald is in elite company.
The Cardinals wide receiver reached 1,326 catches Sunday against the Seahawks and passed Tony Gonzalez for second all-time on the NFL receptions list.
Fitzgerald trails only Jerry Rice with 1,549 catches, but the Hall of Fame receiver thinks it's just a matter of time before he passes him, too.
"He told me one thing. He was like, 'You know what, there's no celebration in being second,'" Rice said Tuesday on NFL NOW. "So, he's got me looking over my shoulder right now, because if anybody can do it, I think it's Larry Fitzgerald, because of his conditioning, his worth ethic and stuff like that. He's just a great football player.
"This is just Year 16 for him. I played 20 years and I think with the game today, I think you're going to see guys play much longer."
While Rice is rooting for Fitzgerald to break his reception record one day, he noted that career catches isn't the only NFL record he holds.
"It would be great to see. It's gonna take a couple more years," Rice said. "I told him, I said, 'Well you know, Larry, if you break one of my records, I still got 36 more.'"
Fitzgerald, 36, has spent his entire NFL career in Arizona and considered retirement this offseason before returning to the Cardinals on a one-year deal.
He finished 2018 with 1,303 career receptions, breaking Rice's record of most receptions (1,281) with one team.
Arizona (0-3-1) is slated to visit Cincinnati (0-4) at 1 p.m. ET Sunday.
