Once again, someone launched their helmet directly at someone's head, and nary a penalty was called.

This time, it was excusable. Jerry Jones — possessing the confidence of a lion drunk off tequila — extended his arms in a nice gesture before the Cowboys' game against the 49ers in Levi's Stadium. You see, the Cowboys' owner was intending to graciously and gracefully catch the helmet of a fan, seemingly to autograph the merchandise.

But with a drop unlikely to unseat Jackie Smith's place atop the painful Cowboy drop power rankings, Jones turned a moment of fan appreciation into a moment of near-owner decapitation.

The moment comes courtesy of a video shot by KDFW's Edward Egros.

The helmet, descending from the stands like a Tim Wakefield knuckleball, came in a little high. Jones wasn't ready to turn his hands on a swivel. And predictably, the former Arkansas offensive lineman short-armed the pass, allowing the helmet to crash squarely into his head.

Ouch.

To Jones' credit, he picked up the raining merchandise and signed autographs, anyway, as the "Elite" security staff stood on, seemingly confused — the Joe Flaccos of rapid response, if you will.

From now on, Jones might save himself both bruise and embarrassment by avoiding the pass-the-hat approach to signing autographs.
