Despite being "America's Team," the Dallas Cowboys aren't the oldest NFL franchise. They were founded in 1960 by the team's first owner, Clint Murchison Jr. He had wanted to own an NFL franchise in Texas but had previously been blocked by the owner of the then-Washington Redskins.
Murchinson finally got the vote he needed, but the hoops he had to jump through to get it sparked an instant rivalry with Washington. He owned the Dallas Cowboys until 1984 when he sold it to a group including H.R. "Bum" Bright. After falling on hard financial times, Bright had to sell the franchise just five years later.
Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys in 1989 and has owned the franchise for nearly 40 years. Let's take a look at how Jones' tenure as the Dallas owner has gone.
