Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo is calling it quits after eight seasons in the NFL.
In an Instagram post captioned "RETIRING A PATRIOT," Mayo wrote Tuesday he'll retire following his third consecutive injury-shortened season.

Mayo, who turns 30 next week, was drafted 10th overall by the Patriots in 2010 out of Tennessee.
The two-time Pro Bowler totaled 537 tackles and 11 sacks through his career in the middle of New England's defense, but managed only 20 starts over the last three seasons between stints on injured reserve. His 2013 and 2014 seasons each ended after just six games because of a torn pectoral muscle and a torn patellar tendon, respectively.
Mayo appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots last season, but his playing time decreased as the season went on. He suffered another pectoral injury during New England's AFC divisional round win against Kansas City and was placed on injured reserve for the third straight season.
Mayo's retirement will save the Patriots $7 million in cap space for the 2016 season.
