Jason Pierre-Paul could make his 2015 debut a week earlier than expected.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin sounded optimistic Wednesday about the pass-rusher's status, saying he'll get "a good amount of reps" in practice Wednesday and Thursday and the team will take it from there. That could open the door for Pierre-Paul to see action Sunday against the Buccaneers, just over four months after a July 4 fireworks accident severely damaged his right hand.

"He’s in outstanding physical condition. We knew that," Coughlin said at a news conference. "… We’re feeling good about accelerating him along. There’s nothing unusual about it when a guy who’s in his position is in the condition that he’s in and prepares himself to play, and that’s what he’s done."
The Giants certainly could use the help. They have allowed a whopping 427.5 yards per game, the worst in the NFL by more than 20 yards, though their 13 interceptions are tied with Arizona for the league lead.
Coughlin said his defense's struggles are not a factor in the timing of Pierre-Paul's return.
"No. It has to do with him and whether he’s ready for not," the coach said. "If he’s ready, we’ll play him. If he’s not ready, we’ll take more time."
