Youngest QBs to win a Super Bowl: Where Jalen Hurts would rank if Eagles win Super Bowl 57 image

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has the opportunity to join an exclusive fraternity should Philadelphia beat the Chiefs in Super Bowl 57 — even more so than winning the biggest game in football.

Should Hurts lead the Eagles to victory at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., he would become one of the youngest winning quarterbacks in Super Bowl history. His Chiefs counterpart, Patrick Mahomes, is already among the list of the youngest QBs to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

Hurts and Mahomes' age — as well as Joe Burrow, Josh Allen's and others — suggest the future of the position in the NFL is in good hands for a long time. But it is Hurts in particular who has a chance to make history with a victory in Super Bowl 2023.

With that, The Sporting News looks at Jalen Hurts' age and where he would rank among the youngest QBs to start — and, potentially, win — the Super Bowl:

How old is Jalen Hurts?

Hurts was born on August 7, 1998.

On the day of Super Bowl 57 (Feb. 12), the Eagles QB will be 24 years, six months and six days old.

A win vs. the Chiefs would make him one of the youngest — but not the youngest — quarterbacks to win the big game.

Who is the youngest QB to win the Super Bowl?

Bill Cowher y Ben Roethlisberger

The youngest quarterback to win the Super Bowl is Ben Roethlisberger, who achieved the feat in Super Bowl 40 as the Steelers downed the Seahawks 21-10. Roethlisberger didn't have the best outing in the game, completing 9 of 21 passes for 123 yards and two interceptions, but did rush seven times for 25 yards and a score.

Roethlisberger was 23 years, 11 months and four days old on the day of his Super Bowl victory, breaking the record for youngest Super Bowl-winning quarterback set by Tom Brady, who was 24 years and 6 months old, four years prior in Super Bowl 36. In so doing, Roethlisberger became the only quarterback to win a Super Bowl aged 23 or younger.

Hurts has the opportunity to become just the seventh quarterback to win a Super Bowl at the age of 25 or younger. Joe Namath was the first to achieve that feat when he led the AFL's Jets to a victory over the Colts in Super Bowl 3; Mahomes was the last to do it at 24 years, four months and 16 days in Super Bowl 57.

Hurts will be roughly two months older than Mahomes was in the latter's first Super Bowl. Indeed, a victory against the Chiefs not only wouldn't move Hurts ahead of his Super Bowl 57 counterpart, but also wouldn't place him among even the top-three youngest signal-callers to win the Super Bowl

Moreover, a Super Bowl victory would come in Hurts' third season, whereas Roethlisberger, Brady and Russell Wilson's came in their second seasons, respectively. No rookie quarterback has ever won the Super Bowl, or even played in it.

Here's where Hurts would rank among the youngest quarterbacks to win the Super Bowl if the Eagles beat the Chiefs:

Quarterback Super Bowl Age Season
Ben Roethlisberger 40 23 years, 11 months, four days 2nd
Patrick Mahomes 54 24 years, four months, 17 days 3rd
Tom Brady 36 24 years, six months, one day 2nd
Jalen Hurts 57 24 years, six months, six days 3rd
Russell Wilson 48 25 years, two months, five days 3rd
Joe Namath 3 25 years, seven months, 13 days 4th
Joe Montana 16 25 years, seven months, 14 days 3rd

Roethlisberger is the youngest quarterback to win the Super Bowl, but not the youngest to play it. That feat goes to Dan Marino, who led the Dolphins in his second season to a berth in Super Bowl 19, where they lost 38-16 to Montana and the 49ers.

Quarterback Super Bowl Age Season Result
Dan Marino 19 23 years, four months, six days 2nd Lost
Ben Roethlisberger 40 23 years, 11 months, four days 2nd Won
David Woodley 17 24 years, three months, six days 3rd Lost
Patrick Mahomes 54 24 years, four months, 17 days 3rd Won
Tom Brady 36 24 years, six months, one day 2nd Won
Jalen Hurts 57 24 years, six months, six days 3rd TBD
Russell Wilson 48 25 years, two months, five days 2nd Won
Joe Namath 3 25 years, seven months, 13 days 4th Won
Joe Montana 16 25 years, seven months, 14 days 3rd Won
Jared Goff 53 24 years, three months, 21 days 3rd Lost
Drew Bledsoe 31 24 years, 11 months, 13 days 4th Lost

To date, 11 quarterbacks aged 25 or younger, Hurts being the last, have played in the Super Bowl. They are 6-4 heading into Super Bowl 57, though the outcome of that game will change the record. For better or worse remains to be seen.
