Jalen Hurts has a turnover problem.
The Eagles franchise quarterback has hindered his team's winning chances with careless giveaways. That trend continued Sunday against the Saints, as Philadelphia was held scoreless in the first half. Hurts still rallied to lead a game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter, but his turnovers are a glaring issue.
New Orleans has proved to be a strong defensive unit but Hurts threw a bad interception in the red zone to cost the Eagles a chance at points. He tried to force a pass to wide receiver Devonta Smith through double coverage but Saints safety Tyrann Mathieu got a jump on the ball for a pick.
The interception was Hurts' fourth of the season, which is tied with rookie quarterbacks Caleb Williams and Bo Nix for the third-most in the NFL so far. Only second-year quarterbacks Anthony Richardson (6) and Will Levis (5) have more.
The Sporting News takes a closer look at Hurts' inflating turnover numbers below.

Jalen Hurts' turnovers by the numbers
26: Jalen Hurts' number of turnovers in last 21 games
Hurts has 26 turnovers over his last 21 games, as pointed out by Eagles reporter Brandon Gowton.
The star quarterback was once renowned for taking care of the football. During the 2022 season, he led the Eagles to a 14-1 record over 15 starts while throwing 22 touchdowns to just six interceptions. His 1.3 interception percentage was fourth-best in the NFL among all starting quarterbacks.
Those turnover issues didn't start bubbling up until last season. He threw a career-high 15 interceptions to just 23 touchdowns and that problem carried into this season, entering Week 3 with three touchdown passes and three picks.
8: Jalen Hurts' number of consecutive regular-season games with a turnover
With his first-half interception against the Saints, Hurts has now turned the ball over in eight consecutive regular-season games dating back to last year.
He closed the 2023 season with five consecutive games with a turnover, recording seven total touchdowns to six total giveaways (five interceptions, one lost fumble).
Hurts hasn't shaken off those hiccups in 2024, recording four total touchdowns to five total giveaways (four interceptions, one lost fumble) through two-and-a-half games.
Eagles QB depth chart
Starter | Jalen Hurts |
Backup | Kenny Pickett |
Third-string | Tanner McKee |
Jalen Hurts
The Eagles committed to Hurts long-term during the 2023 offseason, signing the star quarterback to a five-year, $255 million deal.
His starting job is not in any danger, regardless of his recent turnover issues. Hurts will remain Philadelphia's signal caller as long as he is healthy.
Kenny Pickett
The Eagles acquired Pickett and a 2024 fourth-round pick from the Steelers for a 2024 third-round pick and two 2025 seventh-round picks this past offseason.
Pittsburgh took Pickett No. 20 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft but the experiment didn't last long. He compiled a 14-10 record over two seasons as a starter, throwing 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He has a firm hold on Philadelphia's backup quarterback job.
Tanner McKee
The Eagles drafted McKee with their sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Stanford. He has not played a snap in the NFL yet and is currently Philadelphia's third-string quarterback. He has not been on the active roster for any of the three games so far this season.
