In just over three years since the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick, both sides agreed on a five-year extension Thursday.
The massive new deal is worth $275 million and reportedly includes $200 million guaranteed and $142 million guaranteed at signing.
The $55 million per year average ties Lawrence with Joe Burrow for the highest AAV in the NFL. As it happens with deals like this, people are going to debate if Lawrence is worth the deal he received.
So where does Lawrence rank in production since entering the league?
As a passer, here are the following categories where he ranks in the top 10 since 2021:
- 6,359 Completed Air Yards (6th)
- 3,153 Play Action Pass Yards (6th)
- 1,333 RPO Pass Yards (6th)
- 11,770 Passing Yards (7th)
One of the underrated parts of Lawrence’s game is his rushing ability.
Among quarterbacks, here are the rushing categories that he ranks in the top 10 since 2021:
- 11 Rushing TDs (4th)
- 964 Rushing Yards (8th)
- 19.3 Rushing YPG (8th)
- 72 Rushing 1st Downs (8th)
There are a couple of categories where Lawrence falls in the top 10 since 2021 which are on the the negative side.
He’s tied with Patrick Mahomes with the second-most interceptions (39) and has the second-most fumbles (33) among quarterbacks.
The Jaguars are betting that Lawrence will eventually reach his ceiling and when he does, this deal will look like a bargain when more quarterback deals come in over the next few years.
Only time will tell if they are right.
