The Indianapolis Colts aren't sleeping on the potential that wide receiver Adonai Mitchell brings to the roster.
Entering training camp, Mitchell will be in a battle with third-year wideout Alec Pierce for the starting X-receiver role in Shane Steichen's offense.
Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News listed Mitchell as the potential sleepers to watch going into training camp.
Mitchell vs. Alec Pierce will be a great camp battle to watch to see who gets the top field-stretching role opposite Michael Pitmaan Jr. and alongside returning slot Josh Downs. Anthony Richardson needs someone else to trust for big plays outside with his big arm.
It will be an interesting battle taking place and one that will have a massive impact on the Colts offense. Pierce will likely get the first crack at earning the starting job, but Mitchell is expected to be right on his heels.
While both possess the abilities as deep threats, they do so in different ways. Pierce brings a bigger build and has more build-up speed on deep balls. Getting him to work more against off coverage would be beneficial.
Mitchell is a bit leaner but is a more polished route runner with the ability to get downfield in a hurry. He also proved to be a viable red-zone weapon throughout his collegiate career.
It will be interesting to see how the battle shakes out, but Mitchell will be a name to watch once training camp begins.
