The Indianapolis Colts used this offseason to make moves as they look to rebound after narrowly missing out on the playoffs one season ago.
Though the Colts opted to retain most of their players rather than spend big on outside free agents, they did a solid job addressing the majority of their needs in the draft.
A few outlets gave the Colts solid grades for their moves this offseason, mostly highlighting the additions of Laitu Latu and Adonai Mitchell in the draft.
In his own version of ranking and grading every team's offseason moves, Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News gave the Colts a grade most would expect.
19. Indianapolis Colts
Grade: B-
Key additions: QB Joe Flacco, WR Adonai Mitchell, WR/KR/PR Anthony Gould, EDGE Laiatu Latu
Overall, GM Chris Ballard did a modest job with limited resources, but managed to get a key edge rusher to help the pass defense and another big-play wide receiver for the passing game. They are still banking most on a healthy Anthony Richardson setting the table for a delayed turnaround.
The Colts were never going to be big spenders in free agency. That's just not what they have historically done under Chris Ballard. Adding Flacco solved a big issue as Anthony Richardson's backup even if it's just for one season.
Getting Latu and Mitchell in the first and second rounds of the draft was huge. Then, they were able to add depth to the offensive line. Questions about the secondary are fair considering the depth hasn't changed much since last season.
But as Iyer noted, the entire season is going to come down to the development of Richardson.
