The Indianapolis Colts are coming out of the 2024 NFL Draft with a nine-player class, and have plenty of salary-cap space to make a move if needed.
Coming out of the draft and into post-draft free agency, the Colts could still address some of their biggest needs in the secondary and potentially find some backfield depth behind Jonathan Taylor.
According to Over The Cap, the Colts have $28.4 million in salary-cap space and $24.8 million in effective salary-cap space. Effective cap space essentially is the amount of cap space the team has to work with after including the top 51 contracts. It includes rookie contracts.
Whether general manager Chris Ballard will use the extra cap space to bring in veteran free agents is another question entirely. The Colts are close to their 90-player limit when undrafted rookie free agents are considered.
The Colts freed up a lot of cap space when they signed defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to a two-year contract extension.
The Colts could still afford to add to the free safety and running back position in free agency if they wanted to add more depth, but only time will tell if Ballard pulls the trigger.
