With Madden NFL 21 now available worldwide, you might be dropping back in the pocket as your favorite quarterback and wondering how to attempt the various passes.

There are three major passes every quarterback can do. There's the bullet pass , the lob pass and the touch pass . The bullet pass is just as it sounds, the quarterback throws the pass as hard and as fast as he can. These passes are ideal for short routes, like throwing to your running back out of the backfield.

The lob pass is what you want to use for most deep balls on streak routes. This is the kind of pass Patrick Mahomes will succeed at. Just launch the ball far and high in the air in the hopes your receiver will be there by the time it lands.

The touch pass is a mix in-between those. If you throw a bullet pass on a medium route, there's a good chance it will be intercepted. If you throw a lob pass on a medium route, it may stay in the air for too long and also get intercepted, or deflected. But a touch pass throws the ball hard enough to land quickly, but with enough touch to lead your receiver.

Because it's in between difficulties, it's the hardest of the three passes to master. But we'll go through each pass in detail and explain how to complete each.

The Madden 21 guide says to "press and release the receiver icon."

You might be reading this trying to figure out what the difference is between tapping the button (for a lob) and pressing and releasing the button (for a touch). It's a fine line between just holding on to the button long enough to avoid a lob and releasing before you throw a bullet.

The Madden 21 guide will tell you to tap the button of the receiver icon you're throwing to.

Essentially you'll want to press and release the button as quickly as you can for a lob. If you hold the button too long it will turn into a touch or a bullet.

A bullet pass is essentially the opposite of a lob. With a bullet pass, you're going to want to hold on to the button. It won't take long before you see the ball leave your quarterback's hand.

The high and low passes are essentially just what they sound like. You can throw the ball higher or lower depending on the coverage of your defender, or the skill level of your receiver. Say you're in a goal line situation and your wideout has a height advantage. You'll want to throw a higher pass so the defender can't reach it. The low pass is good for avoiding interceptions and it makes it incredibly difficult for the defender to make a play.
