Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was shocked by what veteran referee Ed Hochuli said to him during Sunday's win over the Saints.
"I was really baffled by what was said to me," Newton said after the game. "I was rolling out, trying to string out the play to create some type of an opportunity to get a completion. The defensive lineman kind of hit me, it was close, right on the cusp of a late hit. The response that I got was, 'Cam, you're not old enough to get that call.' I was looking at him like 'Jesus, I didn't think that you had to have seniority to get a personal foul or anything like that. You all have to be accountable.'

"For me, when it is something around the same range and for that flag not to be called, get called, I am ticked off, really. ... Heaven forbid he gets any rookies. They're going to have a long day, man."
Hochuli denied saying anything of the sort to Newton, but Newton's body language tells a different story.
What others around the NFL are saying:
Niners running back Carlos Hyde was critical of quarterback Colin Kaepernick after Kaepernick threw four interceptions in a blowout loss to the Cardinals. “I mean, it’s not that you can’t throw that,” Hyde said, referring to the game's first interception, a pick-six. “It’s just that you can’t make that turnover. There were guys open. The ball just dropped down to the other person.”
Cardinals cornerback Tyrann Mathieu on his two interceptions against the 49ers: "Their passing game has been simplified so much, it was easy for us to anticipate routes."
The Bears traded Jared Allen to the Panthers, but didn't tell the players before Monday's media availability. "I didn't even know he was gone. Is he gone? We're losing a leader," outside linebacker Pernell McPhee told reporters. "We lose a leader, a leader out of the locker room, a great guy."

Billionaire Warren Buffett showed some support to Dolphins defensive tackle and fellow Nebraska alumnus Ndamukong Suh on Sunday by wearing a Suh jersey — with shoulder pads — to the game against the Bills at Sun Life Stadium. “I actually won the national look-alike contest with the Dolphins,” Buffett joked in an interview with ESPN. “He’s 6-4, 320 (pounds). But I’m bigger than I look.”
Ravens receiver Steve Smith, 36, caught 13 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's loss to the Bengals despite vomiting on the sidelines. “When you’re old like this, that’s the first thing that goes is your stomach," Smith said. "I have an old grandpa stomach. On game day, I get really sensitive, so I have to eat bland food. I kind of stretched myself at breakfast a little bit. I wanted some different kind of carbs, and it didn’t work. So I have to do the B.R.A.T. diet before the games. So bananas, applesauce, bland foods, toast, no butter … just stuff like that.”
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady on Danny Amendola giving the football to a fan after Brady's 400th career touchdown pass: “I don’t care. It’s just a ball. But I had a lot of fun. Danny can do whatever he wants, he made a great catch.”
Chiefs coach Andy Reid was clearly upset following Monday night's 38-28 loss to the Packers, but would not put the blame on any of his players: "I take full responsibility," Reid told reporters. "That’s my responsibility — offense, defense — it’s my responsibility to make sure we do a better job as a team. I’ve got to make sure everything is taken care of on all fronts. That’s my responsibility."
The Bills won Sunday because Dan Carpenter's baby daughter pooped?
Superstitious? Every time she poops on Bills onesie, game day, b4 noon, we win! #SquishTheFish #TodayShePredictsAWin pic.twitter.com/D9BSTzVZgv

Rams linebacker James Laurinaitis, now the franchise's all-time leader in tackles, on the Edward Jones Dome turf catching fire during player introductions: "I wonder if the NFL will make a new rule about flames and pyro inside. Both teams had to roll with it. . . . You're geeked up, you're ready to roll, you have the same routine and by that point, you just want to get that first hit out of the way so bad."

So the Rams lost, didn't score a TD, injured one of the NFL's marquee players & lost their security deposit by setting their field on fire.
