Eli Manning will be the Giants’ quarterback.

New York rookie Daniel Jones has exceeded expectations in the preseason, but the team is still not planning to have an open competition, according to a report from SNY, which cites unidentified sources inside the organization.

The report notes that as long as the Giants “are in the race and he's healthy and playing well, it's not Manning's job to lose. It's just his job.”

The Giants selected Jones, 22, out of Duke with the No. 6 pick in the 2019 draft. Fans criticized the team’s choice, but he has completed 16 of his 19 passes for 228 yards with a pair of touchdowns in two preseason appearances.

“I think (Jones is) making good progress and as he goes along here, he’s checking off all of the boxes,” Giants coach Pat Shurmur told reporters, via Newsday. “I am pleased with the progress he’s making.”

Manning, meanwhile, has been with the Giants for his entire 15-year career and has won two Super Bowls during his time with the team. New York owner John Mara said earlier this month he’d be happy if Jones didn’t play one snap this season.

"I hope Eli has a great year and Daniel never sees the field," Mara told reporters at the time. "That would be an ideal world where you would like to see that. Again, at the end of the day it's going to be the decision by the head coach (Shurmur) as to when or if Daniel ends up playing this year."

The Giants have two preseason games remaining before they face the Cowboys in Week 1 action Sept. 8 in Dallas.
