New York Giants edge rusher Boogie Basham was carted off the field Tuesday due to heat-related issues.
Basham was unable to finish the final joint practice ahead of Thursday's preseason opener against the Detroit Lions, but it appears avoided any injury.
A former second-round pick with the Buffalo Bills, Basham was acquired by the Giants just before roster cuts last year in a trade with Buffalo. They received Basham and a 2025 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick.
Basham figured to be in the mix for one of the final roster spots along the defensive line. With Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari locked in for the top three spots, Basham was likely the fourth in the room.
If the injury keeps Basham off the field for Thursday's preseason opener, the Giants will likely give more reps to Benton Whitley, Tomon Fox, Jeremiah Martin and Ovie Oghoufo.
During the 2023 season with the Giants, Basham appeared in 13 games without making a start on 23% of the defensive snaps. He didn't record a sack while registering 11 tackles.
