Jets quarterback Geno Smith is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a broken jaw, the result of a punch to the face thrown by a former teammate.
Smith on Wednesday was cleared by doctors and participated in his first full practice since the injury. Coach Todd Bowles said Smith "could be" active for Week 3 against the Eagles. Smith initially was expected to be out 6-10 weeks.

Of course, Smith's starting job won't be there when he returns. Ryan Fitzpatrick has led the Jets to a 2-0 record, so there's no need for change.
"Ryan is the starting quarterback right now," Bowles said earlier this week. "I mean, we're going good. We have good chemistry and everything else. Geno understands that. As we go, Ryan is our starting quarterback, and we'll go forward from there."
Smith's status as the backup is still to be determined, as well. It's possible he enters Week 3's game as the No. 2 QB, but Bryce Petty remains in the competition.
How will Bowles decide between Geno Smith or Bryce Petty for the No. 2 QB spot vs PHI? "I'll see what quarterback's playing better." #jets
