Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers
Are the Seahawks as good as their record?
The Seahawks will come into Levi’s Stadium on Monday night with a (7-2) record through the first nine weeks. So, is this team as good as their record? In my opinion, No. I am Russel Wilson’s biggest supporter. I think he is the MVP through nine weeks because there is no player as important to a team than Wilson, especially when you think about the lack of playmakers on that team. Unfortunately, they play defense in the NFL, and gone are the days of the ‘Legion of BOOM’.
The Seattle defense is in the bottom third in many of the metrics I use to gauge the strength of a defense.

If you dive deeper into this Seahawks team, it’s actually amazing how many close games they have won. Six of the seven games that this team has won were by a combined total of 21 points. They were a coin flip in all 6 of those wins in the fourth quarter and they managed to win every single one of those games.
That is REALLY fortunate. That is not all skill, there is an element of luck involved when you are talking about games that are that close. It has inflated this team’s record, but the play on the field has been mediocre. Russell Wilson bails this team out week after week in spots that he really shouldn’t be able to and eventually the worm will turn for this team. When it does, they could drop two or three in a row and everyone will be wondering why, but I won’t.
The 49ers are a legitimate Super Bowl contender
That’s right, I said it. Right now, the San Francisco 49ers deserve to be the NFL odds on favorite coming out of the NFC right now. I think they are the most complete team in the trenches league wide. They have had the 2nd best defense in football all season long behind the New England Patriots, and they have been doing it all with mediocre quarterback play from Jimmy Garappolo. I am a BIG Jimmy G fan. I think he has a ton of potential.
Before the injuries the last couple of seasons, he looked like a cornerstone of this franchise for the next decade. This season he has looked good at times, but he has not put it all together this season. If he does, they could easily run the table in the NFC this season. They are already one of the most complete football teams in the league. They are good everywhere.
They currently have a two-game lead in the division, but that gets cut in half this week should they drop the game to the Seahawks. The NFL betting market is showing the Seahawks respect out of the gate. They opened as a touchdown underdog, but that line has since moved to 6 market wide. We have also seen the total move in this game.
The line opened at 45 late Sunday night and currently sits at 47. No matter what happens in this game on Monday night, it’s going to be entertaining. Especially when you consider how bad the primetime television slate has been the first half of the season.
Seahawks vs. 49ers prediction
So, who wins this game? I actually like two angles in this game. First of all, as good as this 49ers defense is, the Seahawks should still be able to move the ball. We know the 49ers will move the ball against a lower 3rd Seattle defense, so the over screams out at me. Look at most of these Seahawks games.
They are giving up and scoring 27+ per game. I agree with the line move here, and while I would never tell you to grab a number two points worse than the opener, I don’t think it matters Monday night. I am comfortable taking the 47 because I think these two teams get in the mid 50’s on Monday night.
As far as the side in this game, I can only look toward laying the points at home. I would wait on this line because the Hawks appear to be getting respect and it’s possible that it continues. Monitor this line, when you see it start to turn toward San Fran, that’s when you hop on fast, but until then monitor.
In the end, I don’t see how Seattle stops this 49ers running game, keep in mind George Kittle who is huge for this team, is questionable. If Kittle doesn’t play, It might be best to lay off the game completely because he will affect the total and the side, but if he plays, lay it, baby. This 49ers team is the real deal.
