Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants betting guide

Opening line: Dallas -7.5

Cowboys running hot and cold

It’s tough to say at this point in the season. The NFC looks like the stronger conference through the first half of the season, so it looks like the Cowboys will have to win the division to make the playoffs this year. Can they win the NFC East? Absolutely. Dallas is currently leading the division by a half game, and the only team that can challenge them for the division the Cowboys just pummeled a couple weeks ago in the Eagles.

With all that said, the Cowboys inexplicably lost to the Jets a few weeks ago. This team is the definition of hot and cold. If they are locked in, this offense is legitimate. The Cowboys still have the best offensive line in football although the offensive line has been plagued by injuries this season.

They have one of the three best running backs in the league, and they have a quarterback that can control the game with a midrange passing attack while occasionally going over the top to hit a weapon like Amari Cooper deep down field.

This offense is complete. They are No. 1 in the league in offensive DVOA, which is basically a weighted team efficiency rating and a metric I take seriously when judging a teams strength. Their defense is average. They have a great group of young linebackers but everything else around them is average. This defense should still be good enough to stop and offense that is rated as low as the Giants.

The Daniel Jones era has begun in New York

Father Time comes for everyone, and unfortunately for Eli Manning, Father Time came and kicked Manning right in the teeth. The two-time Super Bowl champion was benched earlier this season, and the Daniel Jones era has begun.

When the Giants drafted the rookie quarterback in the offseason, I doubt they thought he would start this season. The plan was for him to sit behind Manning this season and get ready for next year, but the offense looked dreadful in the beginning of the year and the Giants coaching staff decided they couldn’t wait any longer.

Jones has not looked great thus far, but it’s expected. It takes a rookie QB a couple seasons before they are locked in and you know whether you have a franchise changing player or a bust. Jones has played less than half a season, but he has had his moments. The problem is, even if he was great, he has no weapons.

Saquon Barkley is probably the best running back in the league, but the Giants don’t have a receiver worth their salt. The general manager should be embarrassed with the offense he has put together. It doesn’t get any better on defense for this team. The roster is a dumpster fire from top to bottom.

Cowboys vs. Giants prediction

At the end of the day this game comes down to one thing for me. Will Daniel Jones be able to keep pace with the amount of points the Cowboys should be able to put up against this Giants defense? To me the answer is simple: no.

If the Giants had a formidable defense, I would take the shot with them here because of how hot and cold this Cowboys team is at times, but they don’t. I hate laying a touchdown on the road in the NFL odds, but I feel it’s warranted here. Take Cowboys for your Monday night NFL pick.
