The Pittsburgh Steelers' offense has been dreadful over two preseason games thus far. While the offensive line deserves the majority of the blame for the team's struggles, quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields haven't been great, either.
Wilson in particular has been the subject of a media onslaught, with countless people absolutely shredding the veteran quarterback. There are others who believe Fields should start over Wilson, also.
One former NFL general manager, Michael Lombardi, is so down on the situation on offense that he believes the Steelers should consider signing veteran signal-caller Ryan Tannehill, who remains on the open market.
"With the line being as bad as it was, is Ryan Tannehill sitting out there on the street, do you make that phone call to Ryan Tannehill? He knows (Arthur Smith's) offense," Lombardi said on The Pat McAfee Show.
While it's true Tannehill knows Smith's offense from his days in Tennessee and has a history of success in it, adding him won't solve the problem upfront. Not to mention, Tannehill struggled mightily the last two years when the Titans' offensive line was terrible, and he missed significant time due to injury in that span.
Unless Tannehill can block, it doesn't make much sense to sign him. He would be just as big a question mark as Wilson and Fields, and maybe even a bigger one considering what he put on tape in 2022 and 2023.
Now, if Wilson and Fields get hurt, Tannehill would probably be the first guy the Steelers call. But outside of that, his chances of landing in Pittsburgh are slim, at best.
