Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Zay Jones, who is now with the Arizona Cardinals, has been suspended by the NFL.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Jones has been suspended for the first five games of the 2024 campaign for violating the league's personal conduct policy. Jones will be eligible to return to action for the Cardinals in Week 6.
Jones' suspension is a result of a misdemeanor domestic battery charge against him that was ultimately dropped by the Florida state attorney's office.
"The Florida state attorney's office dropped a misdemeanor domestic battery charge against Zay Jones in March, when he was on the Jaguars," Pelissero wrote. "But the NFL ran its own investigation, which is standard, and returned a five-game suspension."
A former second-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2017, Jones spent two-plus years with the Raiders after they acquired him in a trade in 2019 for a fifth-round pick, which ultimately turned into offensive tackle Tommy Doyle.
Jones appeared in 43 games (18 starts) with the Raiders, tallying 81 catches for 847 yards and two touchdowns. The East Carolina product's best season with the Raiders came in 2021, when he finished with 47 receptions for 546 yards and one score.
Jones has spent the past two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he had a career year in 2022, posting career bests in catches (82) and receiving yards (823) while also adding five touchdowns. He struggled with injury in 2023, leading to Jacksonville releasing him in March.
Jones signed a one-year, $2.25 million deal with Arizona earlier this offseason.
