Fantasy QB Rankings Week 4: Who to start, sit at quarterback in fantasy football image

Entering Week 4, we’re getting a much better grasp of how we think certain offenses and quarterbacks will perform based on certain matchups. Another week of game data helps us either strengthen our preseason priors (Josh Allen QB1) or deviate from things we expected (Derek Carr being a consistent starter). Nonetheless, our Week 4 fantasy QB rankings are here to help you navigate through crucial start ‘em sit ‘em decisions with the hope of ending Week 4 with a “W”.

The top of our rankings don’t see much alteration, but you may be a bit surprised to see Russell Wilson (@ Raiders in Week 4) at No. 5 this week. We think Wilson’s in line for an effective performance against a Raiders defense that’s struggled to find their groove in the early go. Las Vegas just allowed Ryan Tannehill to throw for north of 250 yards and score two TDs (one passing, one rushing). Other than Wilson, no other QBs ranked within the top-10 should be too surprising, but Tua Tagovailoa (@ Bengals) officially enters our top 10 for Miami’s Thursday night showdown against Cincinnati.

Tagovailoa looked to be out for the rest of Miami’s Week 3 contest against Buffalo after hurting his back, but he returned in the second half and threw a dime to Jaylen Waddle on a massive third-and-22 conversion. Also on the injury front, Mac Jones (ankle) was injured late in the Patriots' 37-26 loss to the Ravens. Brian Hoyer’s (@ Packers) a competent enough replacement for New England, but he’s still not in consideration as a streamer just yet. Additionally, Zach Wilson (@ Steelers) looks to be in line to make his season debut after suffering a knee injury back in Week 1 of the preseason. Wilson’s also not worth starting this week but might be worth monitoring as a streaming option in the near future given the underrated weapons at his disposal.

WEEK 4 STANDARD RANKINGS:
RBs | WRs | TEs | D/STs | Kicker

One of our biggest risers entering Week 4 is Jared Goff (vs. Seahawks), as he’s steadied an impressive Lions offense and gets a juicy matchup against Seattle. Goff’s coming off a solid showing in Detroit’s 28-24 loss to Minnesota throwing for 277 yards and one touchdown. The Lions have relied on their running backs (namely, Jamaal Williams) near the goal line, but the fact Detroit’s able to move the ball up and down the field can lead Goff to a better TD output this week. Conversely, Carson Wentz (@ Cowboys) is one of the biggest fallers following his dud of a performance against the Eagles. He might accumulate stats late against the Cowboys, but we don't want to try him against another tough defense.

WEEK 4 PPR RANKINGS:
RBs | WRs | TEs | D/STs | Kicker

Would you really start Goff over a regular with a tough matchup, such as Matthew Stafford (@ 49ers) or Aaron Rodgers (vs. Patriots)? We wouldn't, but there's a case to be made. Rodgers managed a decent day against an equally tough defense in Tampa last week, and Stafford still has an impressive array of weapons to help him find stats. The same goes for Tom Brady (vs. Chiefs), who will get Mike Evans (suspension) and likely Chris Godwin (hamstring) back, and Patrick Mahomes (@ Buccaneers) despite his disappointing past two games.

WEEK 4 FANTASY PICKS: Sleepers | Busts | Start 'em, sit 'em

Some other bubble QBs who could be worth starting in Week 4 include Marcus Mariota (vs. Browns), Jameis Winston (vs. Vikings), and Jimmy Garoppolo (vs. Rams). (UPDATE: Andy Dalton is starting in place of Winston this week.) The Browns' defense did put together one of its more complete performances last Thursday night against the Steelers, but defenses haven’t had much trouble slowing down the Mitchell Trubisky-lead offense. Mariota always has a decent floor if he can limit the turnovers. Winston will wing it in a potential shootout, and the Rams are much less scary against the pass than they appear on paper. Further down our rankings, Geno Smith (@ Lions) and Jacoby Brissett (@ Falcons) aren't the worst streaming options in deep leagues.
